About Us
About Us
Calvary Deliverance Church was born on July 17th, 1982 under the leadership of Revered Clementina Stubbs. The Ministry began at the home of Rev. Stubbs and then moved to the auditorium of the E. P. Roberts Primary School on Lincoln Boulevard.
The membership at that time consisted of twenty (20) adults. With God's guidance, the work grew and in approximately three (3) years, the congregation was able to purchase property situated in the area of East Street South and Malcolm Allotment. The hard working and faithful members of this body stuck together with one purpose in mind: To build and promote the kingdom of God.
On Sunday, February 3rd 1985, history was once again made as in the congregation gathered at the property on East Street South at 3:00 p.m. for the ground breaking ceremony.
The service was officiated by Pastor Clementina Stubbs, Elder V. G. Clarke, Bishop W. M. Johnson, National Overseer (C. O. G), the late Elder Bursil Brown; Deacon Livingston Austin and other visiting ministers. Members and well-wishes present were all enthusiastic and motivated at this accomplishment.
During this same year, and with divine enabling, the layout of the building was completed, and the foundation was erected on October 25th, 1985. Once again, the manifestation of God's blessings was upon the church.
One year later, in December of 1986, a Thanksgiving Service was held in the basement of the church, which once housed the Children's Chapel. Worship continued in this area, while work continued on the main edifice, then called "The Upper Room." Early in 1990, the cornerstone of the church was laid, thus completing another milestone of the church's history.
Bishop V. G. Clarke was appointed as Pastor on June 26th 1993, under his leadership the church has seen another succession of tremendous growth. An administrative office was added to the church in November, 1998. Additionally, a Pre-School, Calvary Deliverance Christian Academy, began in August 1999
Future plans to beautify the edifice have taken the church to new heights through building expansion, and the purchase of cameras that now record the
services. Coupled with the vibrant audio tape ministry, which was reinstated in 1999, the message of God power is reaching many in the nation and in the World.
The refurbished edifice was re-rededicated on September 26th 2004, with expanded seating for One Thousand, and includes a Book Store, various conference rooms, a library and a lower chapel which now houses the children service. Our television ministry was launched in November 2005.
April 22nd, 2006 was a solemn day for Calvary as our Founding Pastor, Rev. “Mother” Clementina Stubbs’ spirit took flight at our Heavenly Father’s call from this life to rest with the Lord from many years of faithful labor.
Surely, God's blessings are with us at Calvary Deliverance Church, and we look forward to years of progress, where lives will be touched and changed to God's Honor and Glory.
Upon the retirement of Bishop V. G. Clarke on the 2ndDecember, 2012 Calvary Deliverance Church Building on a legacy on 28th January, 2013 installed Pastor James Newry as its third Senior Pastor.
Vision of The House
All the precepts, principles and commandments of God’s Word are His vision for His people.
The focus of Calvary Deliverance Church is to fulfill the great commission, proclaim Jesus Christ as head of the church and to establish a church centered around the principles and truth of God’s Word.
Goals & Objectives
As a church, Calvary Deliverance Church is called to two objectives: to spread the good news of God's salvation through Jesus Christ to the nation and world, and to equip the next generation with teachings and practical skills that will enable them to live a progressive life.
We want you to have the opportunity to know Jesus Christ. In our church, positive attitudes are developed...good people become better, families are bonded together, and Jesus Christ is Lord.
With our television programs, Christian literature, crusades, and street meetings, Bishop James Newry is reaching the lost and turning hardened hearts back to God through the Holy Spirit. Join us in evangelizing the nation and the world for Christ.
